Thurgood Marshall
Thurgood Marshall was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 2nd, 1908. Marshall was a black person who was a grandson of a slave. He graduated from the same high school as many other black leaders such as Langston Hughes, Kwame Nkrumah, the future president of Ghana, and the musician, Cab Calloway. He was going to go to the University of Maryland but he got rejected due to his color. This was the starting point of his sensitiveness to racial discrimination in America. He was then accepted to Howard University Law school that same year. Marshall became a Supreme Court Judge and got his first big case in 1933 when he successfully sued the University of Maryland for not admitting a African American. Marshall's biggest case was in 1954. The 1954 case, Brown vs. Board of education was the landmark case that demolished the legal rights of segregation. Marshall represented and won more cases than any other Supreme Court Judge. Thurgood Marshall died on January 23, 1993. I think Thurgood Marshall was a very important person to everybody in America. He showed how wrong it was to treat different colored people differently. He won the case to abolish segregation which is one of the most important events in the rights of black people.
